Humanoid Robots Clock In: AI-Powered Machines Move From Demo Videos to Factory Floors

The humanoid robot era moved from viral demo videos to actual payrolls this year, as AI-powered machines from Figure AI, Agility Robotics and Apptronik began performing commercial work at factories and warehouses across the United States and Europe. The deployments, accelerating through 2025, are driven by persistent labor shortages and breakthroughs in machine learning that allow robots to operate in environments built for humans. Industry analysts now describe humanoid robotics as the fastest-growing segment of the global automation market.

Why Humanoids, and Why Now

For decades, industrial robots worked behind safety cages, repeating precise motions in carefully staged settings. They could not cope with cluttered shelves, varied objects or unexpected people.

That changed with the rise of vision-language-action models, a class of AI that lets machines interpret what they see, follow natural-language instructions and translate both into physical movement. NVIDIA kicked off the race in early 2024 with Project GR00T, a foundation model designed to give humanoids general-purpose reasoning skills.

At the GTC conference in March 2025, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang told attendees that robotics is approaching its
